Overview
This course is ideally suited to both new students, wishing to embark on a career in immersive media art, as well as established artists, wishing to expand the remit of their work to embrace modern technologies and practices.
The course introduces the concepts, techniques, and tools for creating immersive art and installation projects that combine physical and digital elements. Students will learn how to use multimedia authoring software, image and video processing tools, music technology, projected augmented reality and interactive devices to design and develop engaging and expressive experiences for various contexts and audiences. Students will also develop their design skills, communication skills, and problem-solving skills through collaborative and individual projects. The course will include lectures, workshops, critiques, and field trips to explore the current trends and practices in immersive art and installation.
The course has been designed and is led by award winning filmmaker, composer and video artist David Ian Bickley. David has installed work at IMMA, The Crawford, The Science Gallery and Haun Tie Art Museum, Beijing amongst others. His electronic music has won many awards including a Hotpress best LP award, and has featured in a recent Ridley Scott film.
Entry Requirements
Leaving Certificate (LC Established, LCVP or LCA) or equivalent
For mature applicants appropriate experience will be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.
Duration
One year full time.
