Description

Learn about sustainability in the first FET Green Campus in Munster. Kinsale Campus is recognised both nationally and internationally as offering the first two-year programme on Permaculture in the world, and where the concept of the Transition Town movement first began. Sustainable Horticulture/Permaculture is a science-based course offering a practical and unique learning experience in a thriving college community. Kinsale has a strong tradition of food and farming, as well as providing a near-idyllic environment for exploring the natural environment. The course consists of classroom-based talks, practical activities, site visits, guest master classes & group project work. The emphasis of the course is on practical skills such as permaculture design, plant identification, food growing, tree planting, ethical communication, community development, environmental education and extras such as introductions to basket weaving and sustainable building techniques for example. The students can apply this knowledge in their own lives and gain professional qualifications to access employment, develop their careers or continue to 3rd level courses in horticulture. The course is useful to anyone interested in landscape design, organic horticulture, community development, environmental education and sustainable resource management, and can lead to work or further training in these areas.
